MEETING THE NEED

The Solution: A Multi-tiered Approach

It is now possible to bring the soil back to health in a natural way and on a global scale. Lifeworks Global works with local partners to provide investment, training and 21st Century technology based on microbial technology to communities in need.

We offer a two-fold approach:

  • trainings and a model for dissemination
  • a new digital application, FARM GENIE, for farmers and all levels of project delivery

We provide business knowledge, long term partnerships and support in quality control programs to regenerate local economies.

Key benefits:

  • The soil is continuously brought back to critical health.
  • Products are created and then provided at negligible cost.
  • Crop yield is significantly increased in quantity and quality.
  • Training and future production costs are kept low.
  • A business model is generated that strengthens, empowers and develops each and every community that uses it without creating dependency on foreign aid.

Lifeworks Global offers proven solutions with a global remit. Here are examples of countries in which we are currently operating.

Through our partner organisation, SCAD (Social Change and Development), we are currently rolling out a ‘Greening the Land’ program, conducting agricultural trials in 500 villages in Southern India.

Science, Soil and Water

Every day international organisations release papers and articles on the benefits and developments in the field of microbial science and soils.

One of the most powerful of late is from Scientific America, validating the overwhelming importance and benefit of microbes in soils.

Lifeworks works with a range of tried and proven concepts in agriculture that are easy to train with, and provide quick and lasting results. These range from crop rotation to soil science to good organic practices, and the most exciting of these is microbial science.

Lifeworks Global funds the initial introduction of these techniques with the desire to pass on the know-how to empower communities and farmers. We do this by providing tailored training, fostering online communities to continue to share knowledge,  and passing on references to scientific sources to help farmers deepen their knowledge.

The initial implementation stage includes two four-day workshops delivered by our specialists. In advance of the workshops, we listen to the community’s needs and learn about their unique soil and crop requirements. We are then ready to provide customised training, which in most cases includes:

  • Providing a foundational in sustainable agriculture.
  • Sharing background knowledge of the products.
  • Teaching best practices for application of the fertiliser and compost.
  • Conducting initial trials and tests in the field.

Composting and soil fertilisation uses local indigenous materials rather than relying on expensive chemicals. Farmers who incorporate these into the agricultural cycle quickly see the benefits of healthier and more productive crops leading to greater food security and wealth for their families.

After the workshops, we stay in close communication with community leaders to discuss results, share knowledge and answer questions. This period generally lasts two to three months and helps to build the confidence of farmers and agronomists.

We use a train-the-trainer model that develops long-term independence and enduring benefits to the local communities.

These communities face many challenges. We work in partnership with governments, major agencies and established local partners to help the communities to address these issues.

Access to safe water is a crucial issue which our specialist local partners help to meet.

We work with agencies to provide solutions for clean drinking water and for water harvesting including Grifaid for water filters. With our partners, we provide training to build low cost and durable water tanks which harvest rain water for drinking and agriculture.

We partner with agencies such as Life In Abundance who have a long track record in helping to build robust and sustainable communities.

Expectations: after one season

Increased Crop Yield

Based on the results from world wide projects, farmers can expect a 20 – 30% increase in crop yield initially. Over time this increases up to 50%.

Animal Health

Farmers can expect significant improvement in animal health, reduction in mortality and command a greater price for their healthier animals as well as reduced vetinerary costs.

Strengthening community

The community will see improvements through greater wealth, opportunties for commerce and employment, and better health.

Increased Income

With a minimum 50% increase in seed germination, significant reduction in the use of fertiliser and farmers’ superior products commanding higher market prices, farmers will see their income significantly improve.

Scaling Up

When a community is ready, Lifeworks Global returns to the village to assist in scaling agricultural successes. We work alongside farmers and partnership agencies to source and fund the purchase of fertilizer and composting products at a fixed and affordable rate.

While addressing these and any other issues that may occur during the scaling process, we focus on supporting the community to be self-sustaining, meaning that they are not dependent on us for future growth and success.
